  4. Keyboard interface controls

If you do not have a mouse connected or just prefer to use the keyboard when handling the game, the user interface comes with an optional set of keyboard controls. Most of these should be fairly intuitive if you are used to controlling your system with the keyboard.

When appropriate,  space  or  enter  will confirm a selection, an entry, or close a dialog.

In the same vein  esc  will cancel a selection, close a dialog or exit the game.

On the title screen, use  arrow up/down  to select an option and  space  or  enter  to confirm. Alternatively, use these shortcuts to access the individual options directly:

  •  h  tutorial
  •  t  top scores
  •  s  settings
  •  a  about
  •  esc  exit
  •  space  or  enter  play

In a dialog:

  •  arrow left/right  select tab
  •  shift  +  arrow left/right  select tab in the bottom row
  •  digits 1 - 0  open corresponding tab

All elements of a dialog have keyboard shortcuts for easy access. Hold  alt/option  to see what shortcuts are active for the current dialog.

Alt shortcuts
This is the underlined character in the element name and pressing it will have different effects on different types of dialog elements:
checkbox: toggle with shortcut

dropdown: open with shortcut, select with  arrow up/down , confirm with  enter

text field: activate with shortcut, jump between fields with  tab , confirm with  enter

button: activate with shortcut. A button with no visible shortcut is activated by pressing either  esc  or  enter , whichever makes sense

Some dialog elements, mainly in the gameplay dialog, come with helpful information texts. To view these with the keyboard, hold  shift  while pressing the element's shortcut to toggle its information text on or off. To see which elements come with additional information and the shortcuts to use, hold  shift  +  alt/option .
