Password protection without a static password as HTML parameter, a text file or a hardcoded string. The applet redirects to a file of the same name as the password. If there isn't such a file, the password is obviously wrong. Highly configurable and several skins included.

You are allowed to use this applet on any site you own, change the HTML parameter configuration and change the skin pictures.
You are not allowed to alter, decompile or claim ownership of the jar or class files.

When you register, the registered jar and class files are send to you in a zip file by email attachment within 48 hours. Replace the current jar and class files with the ones from the registered version and the link back to us and any unregistered messages will disappear. When you register you also benefit of our email support and free updates. Support does not include custom changes to our applet's source code, but it does include email support with any problems you might encounter while customizing the HTML parameters or installing the applet. Suggestions for improvements for our applets are highly appreciated and those of registered users are more likely to be implemented in the next update.
The current password is renamefile. This is because there is a webpage file in this directory called renamefile.html, which isn't linked from any of the publicly know webpages. The applet itself doesn't know the password (so hackers can't find it either), instead it creates an URL based on the password and checks if that file exists. You can change the applet's password this by simply renaming the renamefile.html or placing another webpages that isn't linked from a publicly know webpage in the applet's directory. For example if you want your password to be secret, simply rename renamefile.html to secret.html. You can also change the extension (html, htm, jsp, ...) of the secret webpage file, by changing the Extension parameter in the HTML source of this applet.
In this security scheme there is no static HTML, text, encrypted, compiled, class or jar file that contains the password, which means there is not password to find for hackers. If you make sure that there is an index file in the same directory or directory viewing is disabled, so people can't see the files in that directory and you renamed renamefile.html, even the programmer of SecretPass can not hack your site. Using the meta tags used in renamefile.html (to prevent caching of the secret webpage) and using an inner frame to show the secret webpage, will improve security for viewing on public computers. Although we claim that this applet is a very good method to secure your website, we can not be hold responsible for possible hacks or cracks on your website.
To do a quick install, first copy your favorite example's APPLET tag out of this html file completely in your public webpage where you want the applet to display, insert the private page into the applets directory, rename it to the password + extension and finally upload the public webpage, the private webpage, the background and button skin picture of the example's skin and all class and jar files on your webserver. More information about installing an applet at our installing help pages.
You can change the applet's appearance (such as size, colors, skinfiles, ...) and configuration (such as language, maximum number of attempts, ...) with it's parameters. The HTML source of the first example contains comments explaining each parameter.
Creating your own skin isn't easy, but it's possible. Each skins consist out of a maximum of 2 files: a background picture and a button picture. The background picture is simple drawn at the background of the applet, stretched if needed to the size of the background. The button picture consists out of 3 buttons drawn under each other. From top to bottom they represent the button in the Out (when the mouse does not hover over the button), Over (when the mouse does hover over the button), Down (when the mouse is pressed down over the button) state. Take a look at the files of the example skins and possibly edit those to create your own skin.
It is possible to convert the normal APPLET tag configuration to a HTML configuration which will do an automatic download of Sun's latest Java plug-in. This is done at the plug-in page.
